Who arrives at the Roman Corner from the Piazza Marsilio Ficino, and follows the road for Via Castel Guinelli, will find almost at the end, on the right, La Casa Grande. Upon viewing it from the outside, one sees a simple, modest building. Even if the exterior has preserved its former look, the appearance of the outside does not reflect the beautiful treasures contained on the inside. The Villa belonged to the Serristori family for six centuries, from the end of the Middle Ages to the Unification of Italy, and has today found a new burst of life because of the interest in its history and beautiful works of art. Villa Casagrande, formerly a residence of artistic heritage frequented by kings, queens and popes, was recently restored and is now a luxurious hotel. The thirty bedrooms have been furnished with modern comforts, taking care not to spoil the charm of this 12th century building.
An ancient structure found within the castle walls has been converted and is now home to the swimming pool, the modern sauna and the gym. The ancient kitchen, where the Countess used to spend her days, is where the guests of the hotel meet to have their breakfast and to enjoy a nice cup of coffee. The restaurant, situated in the old weaponry room in the winter and in the shade of the courtyard in the warm summer months, has a well-researched typical Tuscan menu, to be complemented by one of the excellent Chianti wines produced by the farm. Vu de l'extérieur, c'est un bâtiment modeste. Même s'il a gardé son caractère original, l'extérieur du bâtiment est loin de refléter les merveilleux trésors que renferme la villa. Propriété de la famille Serristori pendant six siècles, depuis le moyen-age jusqu'à l'Unification de l'Italie, cette demeure a aujourd'hui trouvé un nouveau souffle de vie grâce au regain d'intérêt pour l'histoire et les oeuvres d'art. Autrefois une résidence de tradition artistique fréquentée par les rois, reines et souverains pontifes, la Villa Casagrande a récemment été rénovée et est aujourd'hui un hôtel luxueux. Les trente chambres sont équipées de tout le confort moderne mais elles ont su conserver tout le charme et la magie de cette bâtisse du douzième siècle. Une ancienne construction a été trouvée dans les murs du château et est devenue un centre de remise en forme avec une piscine, un sauna et une sale de gym. Les cuisines, où la comtesse avait l'habitude de passer ses journées, sont aujourd'hui la salle des petits-déjeuners.
